Dear Covenant Friend,
The Elders of Covenant Church believe that God is calling us into a special season of prayer and fasting. We will begin this Friday, June 27, and fast through Monday, July 7. We will be praying and fasting so that we might more clearly hear the voice of the Lord, know His will, experience more fully His life and strength, and be more effective in extending His Kingdom outward to those who are seeking Him, to those who are broken, and to those who are lost…and for our nation.
Fasting means denying ourselves things that are ordinarily part of our daily lives and focus. Often, this involves refraining from eating or certain activities. With regard to fasting from food, the Lord may lead you to fast for one whole day, or for one meal per day, or for certain days (however you fast, DO NOT abstain from water…drink plenty of water during a fast). Seek the Lord about what He would have you do. Some people are unable to totally fast from food due to dietary reasons, but they can fast from specific food items, or from activities such as television, movies, internet, and so forth. The idea would be to invest that time and energy into prayer, worship, Bible study, and seeking God. As we fast, we are humbling ourselves before the Lord - and not advertising our sacrifice to others. God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble. And we need God’s grace.
We want to pray specifically for those among us who are sick and need God’s healing touch. This coming Sunday, June 29, we will pray publicly once more for Kayla Prieto, daughter of Carlos and Linda, who will be having surgery to remove her tumor, on July 7. If there are others of you who would like to receive prayer on this Sunday (or anytime), let us know, or respond when we open the altar for ministry. We would count it an honor to stand with you in faith for your healing.
This Sunday will be a time of Communion together, and we’ve often seen a special grace for healing and restoration during these times. We will also be hearing about what God has done for our students at the Camp of Champions. Make plans to be with us, and let’s seek the Lord together for a breakthrough into greater dimensions of His power and purpose.
In Jesus,
Stephen Simpson, Senior Pastor
Isaiah 58-61
